South Sudan is Tianwen s first stop to enter the oversea market.

The China-aided Technical Cooperation Project of Education in South Sudan was China’s first comprehensive education aid project, initiated by the Ministry of Commerce, undertaken by China South Publishing & Media Group Co., Ltd., and carried out by Tianwen Digital Media Technology Co., Ltd.. It provided a platform where Chinese culture and Chinese value “going out” can continue to spread and take effect in South Sudan. It also provided references for other culture “going out” projects. The project aimed to comprehensively improve the education environment in South Sudan and help it build a comprehensive development system for modern education.

The project included top-level education planning, textbook development, teacher training, the construction of ICT teacher training center and textbook printing. We would help improve the education environment in South Sudan and build a comprehensive development system for modern education.

This project took 5 years to complete. When we learned about the strong education needs of South Sudan at the beginning of 2013, we started to contact the government and education sector immediately. Founded in 2011, the education of South Sudan urgently needed to be revitalized after years of war. No unified planning and design, and various sources of teaching materials resulted in many problems about the textbook such as the insufficient supply, improper cohesion, and no system.

In December 2013, we sent a propaganda team to the Ministry of of South Sudan to publicize the cooperation project and successfully invited a delegation from the Ministry of Education to visit China. After visiting Huawei, China South and Tianwen Digital Media, the delegation finally signed a strategic cooperation agreement through deep cooperation talks.

In March 2014, Bol Makueng, the deputy minister of education in South Sudan, signed a business contract covering consultation, textbook printing and procurement, and teacher training cooperation. This marked the official opening of Tianwen’s cooperation with the Ministry of Education of South Sudan. In June, Tianwen Digital Media officially applied to the Ministry of Commerce for the “China-aided Technical Cooperation Project of Education in South Sudan”.

In December 2015, the Ministry of Commerce declared that Tianwen Digital Media was the sole implementation subject of the project and coordinated the delivery of the project. In July 2016, the project was officially launched after Tianwen signed the general contract agreement with the Ministry of Commerce of China. On July 29, 2016, the general contract agreement was signed with the Ministry of Commerce of China, marking the official launch of the project.

In April 2017, the first phase of backbone teacher training was successfully completed. In early July 2017, the first batch of printed textbooks and ICT equipment arrived in South Sudan. In December, under the guidance of the cooperation bureau, the mid-term acceptance inspection of the project was successfully completed.

In February 2018, the one-month ICT training was successfully completed in South Sudan. In September 2018, the final acceptance inspection of the ICT infrastructure and ICT training was completed. By the end of 2018, the project was completed smoothly, helping South Sudan improve the education step by step.
